Heartbeat International is a Christian, interdenominational association that provides networking opportunities and the support, training, and resources for members to be creative and entrepreneurial in their own communities, as the Lord leads. It is the largest pregnancy help association in the world, currently supporting, starting and strengthening over 3,000 pregnancy help organizations \u2014 including international affiliates on every inhabited continent \u2014 to provide alternatives to abortion. Our members include pregnancy help centers, maternity homes, non-profit adoption agencies, and abortion recovery programs.<\/p>\n

  • Heartbeat affiliates propose and offer, through education and creative services, positive,\u00a0life-affirming\u00a0choices for the woman challenged by pregnancy.<\/li>\n
  • Heartbeat affiliates shall\u00a0prefer and promote the value and place of sexual intimacy, children, and family building within marriage between one man and one woman.<\/li>\n
  • Heartbeat affiliates\u2019 services are personal, confidential, and nonjudgmental.<\/li>\n
  • Heartbeat affiliates\u00a0present alternatives to abortion without discriminating basedon race,\u00a0ethnicity, creed, color, national origin, age, or marital status.<\/li>\n
  • Heartbeat affiliates shall not advise, provide, or refer for abortion, abortifacients, or contraceptives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Affiliates are entirely autonomous in all other matters of policy and management.<\/p>\n

    Our Commitment of Care and Competence<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Clients are served without regard to age, race, income, nationality, religious affiliation, disability or other arbitrary circumstances.<\/li>\n
    • Clients are treated with kindness, compassion and in a caring manner.<\/li>\n
    • Clients always receive honest and open answers.<\/li>\n
    • Client pregnancy tests are distributed and administered in accordance with all applicable laws.<\/li>\n
    • Client information is held in strict and absolute confidence. Releases and permissions are obtained appropriately. Client information is only disclosed as required by law and when necessary to protect the client or others against imminent harm.<\/li>\n
    • Clients receive accurate information about pregnancy, fetal development, lifestyle issues, and related concerns.<\/li>\n
    • We do not offer, recommend or refer for abortions, abortifacients or contraceptives. We are\u00a0committed<\/span>\u00a0to offering accurate information about related risks and procedures.<\/li>\n
    • All of our advertising and communication are truthful and honest and accurately describe the services we offer.<\/li>\n
    • We provide a safe environment by screening all volunteers and staff interacting with clients.<\/li>\n
    • We are governed by a board of directors and operate in accordance with our articles of incorporation, by-laws, and stated purpose and mission.<\/li>\n
    • We comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements regarding employment, fundraising, financial management, taxation, and public disclosure, including the filing of all applicable government reports in a timely manner.<\/li>\n
    • Medical services are provided in accordance with all applicable laws, and in accordance with pertinent medical standards, under the supervision and direction of a licensed physician.<\/li>\n
    • All of our staff, board members, and volunteers receive appropriate training to uphold these standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Working Definition<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>A broad definition of a maternity housing provider is “any organization that provides housing as part of their life-affirming mission.” This includes:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Groups\/organizations which operate a home(s)<\/li>\n
      • Groups\/organizations which supervise those in beds or apartments for pregnant and parenting mothers andchildren.<\/li>\n
      • Families which take in pregnant\/parenting mothers and babies under the supervision of an outside agency.<\/li>\n
      • Programs which supervise and\/or offer counsel to mothers with babies before and\/or after birth within theirindependent living situation.<\/li>\n
      • Other programs that directly support the development of maternity housing providers, with approval from theLeadership Council team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

         <\/p>\n

        Addendum to Commitment to Care and Competence<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>As a Maternity Housing Provider, I agree that in my organization:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        • We create a dignified living environment where safety and well-being are upheld.<\/li>\n
        • We build and implement programs to promote overall health and address the practical needs of mothers such ascounseling, education, parenting skills, and life skills.<\/li>\n
        • We rejoice in the gift of human life in all stages from conception until natural death. We do not recommend,provide, or refer for any means of abortion at any stage nor do we recommend, provide, or refer for any artificialcontraceptives.<\/li>\n
        • We teach and promote sexual integrity as the positive lifestyle choice. If one is single, sexual integrity is refrainingfrom sexual relations in all its forms. In marriage, sexual integrity means saving the intimacy of sexual relationssolely for one’s spouse.<\/li>\n
        • We celebrate adoption as a courageous, life-giving choice for some mothers. We promote adoption informationand facilitate relationship with adoption agencies, with a preference for Christian-based agencies.<\/li>\n
        • While we understand that marriage between a man and a woman creates the ideal environment for raisingchildren, we recognize that many women must face motherhood alone. We acknowledge that single parenthoodis often a mother\u2019s heroic response to challenging life circumstances. We uphold and honor fatherhood andpromote the healthy involvement of a father in the lives of their child(ren).<\/li>\n
        • We witness the Christian faith freely, embracing a charitable spirit of invitation and not coercion.<\/li>\n
        • We respect the truth-filled wisdom of related fields of work including homeless providers, addiction recovery,trauma and abuse, and others.<\/li>\n
        • We work in partnership with other life-affirming missions to provide seamless care for pregnant women in needof support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
